Michael Cardwell Michael Cardwell, has been named fire chief and emergency preparedness director for the city of Urbandale, the city announced. Cardwell had been the city's assistant fire chief since 2008. Cardwell has been instrumental in implementing several successful emergency preparedness initiatives in Urbandale and the Des Moines Metropolitan Area, according to a news release. He helped lead the planning and construction of Urbandale's Fire and Safety Training facility, a cutting-edge site that advances training for emergency responders.
